Snow Day 1
Language Arts:
     Reading - Read one story on RAZ and answer the comprehension questions.
     Writing - Write a personal narrative on your snow day to share in class when you return. Describe in detail how you decided to spend the day. Use your five senses to help add sensory detail. 
     Word Study - Use SPELLING CITY to practice a previous sort.

Math - Use our portaportal to practice multiplication. Solve 389 x 8 two different ways.

Social Studies - Review the study guide on Natives of Virginia. A study guide is on our Blog.

Science - Go outside and share the weather report with your family. Explain the clouds and what is happening with air pressure, precipitation, possible wind speed, clouds and temperature.

Language Arts:
     Reading - Read one story on Dogo News and create three questions about the article.
     Writing - Write a description of the snow in your yard. Describe in detail how you handled the weather change. Use your five senses to help add sensory detail. 
     Word Study - Use SPELLING CITY or our blog activities to practice this week's sort.

Math - Use our portaportal to practice division. Solve 826 divided by 4 and solve it two different ways. Use base 10 blocks as one way and the reverse operation to solve it the second way.

Social Studies - Watch a Powwow on You Tube. Explain what you saw in three sentences.

Science - Create the phases of the moon using objects from your home such as cookies, toys, trash etc. Label each phase. Include the earth and sun in your project. Bring your project to school when we return.

     Reading - Read one story on Dogo News and create three questions for a family member to answer. Remember to know the answers yourself so you can tell the answer to your family member in case they do not know.
     Writing - Write a personal narrative on a day that you were surprised. Maybe it was a birthday or special summer activity day. Maybe it was a snow day that you did not know was going to happen. Include as much sensory detail as you can and use your five senses to help. "Bee" ready to share in class when you return. 

     Word Study - Use SPELLING CITY to practice a previous sort.

Math - Use our portaportal to practice multiplication and division. Solve 826÷4. 
Solve two different ways to check your answer. 

Science - Go on our Portaportal to review Phases of the Moon
 The Sun, Earth and Moon 
or 
The Solar System.

Science Project - Create a project explaining the 4 seasons and how the tilt creates the seasons.

Create your favorite weather day by drawing a picture of you doing something fun on that day and give 5 reasons why it is your favorite. 


Math:
Geometry practice on Splash Math.

Create a geometric shape 7 sided power polygon shape.  


Answer this problem:
836 snowflakes fell on kid's 6 noses equally. How many snowflakes will each kid get on their nose? If there are any, what happened with the leftover snowflakes? (remainders) 

Make up your own story for 999 divided by 2. Solve it!

Describe your favorite character from your book and tell why that character is your favorite.

Make a list of 10 descriptive words for each: your bedroom

Science:
Energy, Force, and Motion

Create a sledding hill and have an object slide down the snow slope. Time it three times and record the data. Average out the time by adding all three and then dividing by three. 
Change the slope and see if it effects the time. Did the time increase or decrease?
Conclude what effects the changes made and why. 

Math:

     Writing - We have been learning personal narrative writing. Write a story about a time or place of a prior snow day. Include as much sensory detail as you can and use your five senses to help. "Bee" ready to share in class when you return. 

Word Study - Use SPELLING CITY to practice this week's sort by completing any online Spelling City activities. Do at least two games using your words. A cursive activity is online to print out to practice cursive. 

Math - We started division. Our Portaportal has many division activities to practice. Also, do Reflex until you get a green light.

Mr. Nicholson had 84 extra footballs he wanted to share. He needed to divide them between the 3 fourth grade classes. How many footballs will each class receive.  Are there any left overs? (remainders)

Science:
We have learned about the Solar System. Create a Jeopardy game on the Solar System, Phases of the Moon and Earth, Moon and Sun.


Social Studies: 
Write a paragraph about how the Native Virginians adapted to their environment in the winter (snow day).

Language Arts:

     Reading - Read a story on RAZ and answer the comprehension questions at the end of the story. Also write a few sentence explaining the characters, setting and plot of the story. We have talked about them in class. Compare the characters from the previous stories or the ones in the novels you are currently reading. Do they have anything in common? 

     Writing - We have been learning fictional writing. Write a story about a person that is transported to another time and place. Include as much sensory detail as you can and use your five senses to help. "Bee" ready to share in class when you return. 

Word Study - Use SPELLING CITY to practice this week's sort by completing any online Spelling City activities. Do at least two games using your words. A cursive activity is online to print out to practice cursive. (Several of you showed an interest in cursive.)

Math - We started adding fractions by using equivalent fractions last week. Use the fraction page or make another to see all the equivalent fractions to help you add 3/4 + 5/8 and 1/3 + 2/10. 

Also, go on our Portaportal and do 25 minutes of fraction practice.

Word Study - Use SPELLING CITY to practice this week's sort by completing any online Spelling City activities. Do at least two games using your words. A cursive activity is online to print out to practice cursive. (Several of you showed an interest in cursive.)

Write a different story about an inanimate outside object that you have at your house. Include as much sensory detail as you can and use your five senses to help. Word Study - Use SPELLING CITY to practice this weeks sort. Do at least two games using your words. A cursive activity is online to print out to practice cursive. (Several of you showed an interest in cursive.)

Math - We started our fractional unit. Go on our Portaportal and do 25 minutes of fraction practice. Also, complete this long division and multiplication problem for extra practice.

Science - Go on our Portaportal to learn about the planets with rings in our solar system.Create a drawing of those planets and tell what the rings are made of. You could also review the solar system, phases of the moon, and further explore the sun, earth and moon. Complete your science project.

Snow Day 1-28-14

Language Arts:

     Reading - Read several stories and articles Dogo News for 25 minutes. Think of one story or article that interests you. A writing project using that article is assigned below. 

     Writing - From a story you read on Dogo News, create a fictional story related to the one you read. One story on Dogo News talked about a 3D printer called the Chef-Jett that makes candy. You could create a fictional story about how your favorite candy was made and came to life. Include as much sensory detail as you can and use your five senses to help. "Bee" ready to share in class when you return. 

Word Study - Use SPELLING CITY to practice this weeks sort. Do at least two games using your words. A cursive activity is online to print out to practice cursive. (Several of you showed an interest in cursive.)

Math - Use IXL to practice multiplication and division. Solve: 821divided by 4.  Solve two different ways to check your answer. Solve using base 10 blocks. (flats, rods, and unit cubes - remember to draw them simply) 

Science - Go on our Portaportal to learn more about the Solar System.Create a drawing from what you learned to share with the class. You could also review the Phases of the Moon and further explore the Sun, Earth and Moon. 

Science Project - Draw and label the planets in our solar system using objects from your home such as cookies, toys, trash etc. Label each planet. Include the sun in your project. List which ones are Terrestrial and Gas Planets. Bring your project to school to share when we return.

     Word Study - Use SPELLING CITY to practice a previous sort.

Math - Use IXL to practice multiplication or division. Solve 389÷2. Solve two different ways to check your answer. Solve using base 10 blocks. (flats, rods, and unit cubes - remember to draw them simply)

  1. Hello Bee Class! We have a wonderful snow day today and if you need something fun to do, here are some activities to help continue your learning. Happy Snow Day and Happy Thanksgiving! We will have our Native American test and Feast next Monday when we return to school. If you purchased something perishable such as berries please do not feel obligated to purchase more for next Monday. If your item can be frozen, please do so and we will hold our feast Monday at lunch. Thanks for all you do and have a wonderful holiday!
